I was suggested by a Senior Google Engineer, that it is better to join Google at later stage of one's career. He made several arguments ranging from lack of possible choices, lack of social life (people in general are old and don't socialize much). I wanted to ask the blind community, whether companies have a certain mean age that one should consider to join, like for eg. Cisco is better for someone at a later stage at career. This data would really help engineers (especially early stage engineers) to evaluate the companies they wish to pursue. TC: $120K
Google will look better on your resume than Cisco.
I think it’s better to join G at early stage, because there is a high chance that you would be lowballed with great amount of years of experience if you consider in your mid career - a real disappointment.
G can also lowball people in the early stage as well, unless you got strong competing offers
No past experience helps join Google, it's mainly on your performance at interview. So focus on prepping for an interview rather than gaining an experience. Google looks for a skill not a knowledge or experience in most cases. Off course there are some roles/opportunities that require experience too but don't focus on it
Thanks for the response. However, my question is very different. I wanted to know whether joining Google at early stage of one's career is boon or bane?
I think it's boon, because at a lot of experience Google will downlevel you which is frustrating for many. In general early the Google on your resume, you will gain much more out of it, there are lots of young engineers around
