I have an Netflix offer for Engineering Manager role. I am working from Seattle and plan to move outside. I was considering NYC or Boston. I am currently M1 at FB with 2 EM reporting to me (operating at M2 scope with promo in Jan). Current TC: ~$600k Netflix offer is - $800k all cash.
Sorry for not contributing but what’s youre YOE? Those are some crazy numbers
14 YOE, ~4 YOE as Manager
This is a flex... Gtfoh
Not really familiar with Seattle and cost of living. Question I would be asking is 1. Which role is better specially with respect to team/area of focus? 2. Cost of living comparison (you have 200k diff) between your current and new TC. Is it good enough to jump? Btw congratulations, those are really good TC numbers. How is the interviewing process at Netflix for EM role? Would like to get some insights and pointers if you are comfortable answering.
I moved from Seattle it was very worth it. Some people like the sleepier pace and gloomy weather of Seattle though
Could you give more reasons?
The weather is much better. The state is more diverse. The city has more sports arts and culture. And by participating in the startup tech scene I was able to 10x my net worth in under 5 years. The downsides are taxes and wildfires every summer.
Dating will be worse
How old are you?
35. No sex since 2020 feb (COVID-19 started)
Dating - NYC
East Coast >> West Coast unless you’re crazy about hiking
From Boston and in the Bay Area rn. MYC will be a better bet for dating and things to do. What was the EM interview process like?
How is dating scene in Boston? I am in Seattle and it’s pretty shit here. EM interview at Netflix was all about management philosophy and Netflix culture deck and a design. No coding.
Boston here- dating will be better than Seattle & Bay Area but worse than NYC
I am prioritizing for better dating, health and personal life and nice TC is icing on top
Mmm Bay area is warm at least so you get the life benefits with that (if you want them)
