I finish my bachelors in May and I have a good offer from Apple on an interesting team working on MacOS. I also think the offer is pretty good (125k base, 20k sign on, 50k rsu over 4 years). I am also very interested in signal processing, computer vision, and ML though and this position has nothing to do with that (although still interesting). Should I take the offer and run or pursue a masters to try to change fields?
Just take Apple offet
Take offer! Also it would help if you change it to poll.
Good point, added
Take the offer then few years later u can do a par time masters
It's not worth it from TC perspective but it's up to you what you care about more
Does a masters not set you up to outpace someone with just a bachelors? Overall, I have limited experience with CV/ML, but I really enjoy learning about the more advanced mathematical subjects.
no masters is useless except for visa or changing fields
You should do a PhD if you want to do ml
PHD in ML seems like suffering. You're a slave to big tech to get the data and computation to do anything interesting
No, if you do your PhD well you focus on beating sota models benchmarked on public datasets.
Start with Apple. Enroll in a part time or online MS - Stanford, GeorgiaTech, SJSU, etc. When managing both becomes unbearable, you’ll be making a truly informed decision.
For MS candidates we have offered 100k RSU 50k and a similar base. So if you can get a masters while you are still at it please do it.
Get masters while working. Apple pays $5k tuition per year
Please go for the job. A Masters is just a foot in the door. After a year or two into the job, nobody cares if you have a Masters or not.
Have you asked the recruiter if you can defer?
No I haven’t, is it typical to be able to defer for up to a year? I also have the opportunity to finish a MS in just an extra semester at my school but the program isn’t very good.
