Is the bay area/west coast worth it?

Offers in DMV area for 110-140k TC vs potential for startups in the west coast TC varying between 150-200K. A lot of startups in this area seem to be paying better salaries than what youd find from bay area but this is all speculation since i havent gotten to term sheets with companies in the west yet.

If you can afford it/are willing to risk the move and can deal with how the Bay Area is, then the Bay Area is probably worth it. There are more opportunities out there (jobs, connections, etc) than DC imho. DMV is ok, but it was a bit on the boring side for me. Weather on the west coast is also better. If you get tired of the Bay, you can head over to Seattle and there’s growth there as well. If you get tired of both, you can head down to Southern California, but keep in mind there’s a “sunshine tax” for most jobs.

Come to the Bay Area for all the rest it has to offer — beaches, forests, beauty, great food, diverse backgrounds and lifestyles, lots of fun things to do. The higher TC is nice but if that’s all you chase in life you’ll feel pretty sad pretty soon.

I moved to the West Coast because I wanted to live there. Started in another industry then moved into tech. It's very different than DC. The culture, the people, the weather, ect. Also it's more expensive, so unless you live below your means, the extra TC may not be worth it.

If you want a career gtfo out of DMV. Too many low quality people here. Great dating market though
