In my team, when someone sends a message to our slack channel to say they are working from home, orher team members follow by saying “me too” but a couple people say “#metoo” specifically. I feel like using the hashtag is disrespectful to the movement. what do you think?
It really depends on the level of snow-flakiness of your group chat. This is definitely a bad idea at Google. Honestly, don’t even risk it.
Mocking sexual assault victims is pretty bad idea outside of google too
@iozP82 Do you honestly think that they are trying to mock sexual assault victims?
Maybe they are not aware of it? I would give them benefit of doubt to begin with. And if you are close to some of them, maybe have a quick chat offline if this is bothering you that much.
This
Oh God.
Don’t give an inch in the language wars.
It's true. Language is a rigid prescriptive concept. We must hold firm against the baes at the gate
That's a good fun. But I would be scared to do it at Google. Too many folks willing to get offended
*wanting
You’ll probably be fine, but if you are aware that there’s a potential backlash, why play with fire? It’s no sweat off your back to just not throw in the hashtag.
Was it used prior to the movement?
