Although I'm grateful to have gotten the entry into US because of masters, but sometimes it feels like being too old and earning so little compared to younger people AND bring on lower level. 2 yoe before masters and 1 yoe after. TC 190k L3 SWE
Get promoted faster or job hop
Thanks to Blind, 3 YOE with 190K TC feels old and earning so little 🤦🏻♂️
Took me two years to catch up with my peers who didn't have a PhD but had 5 years of experience.
May be because it's Intel where refreshers etc are less?? At Google, good performers are rewarded heftily. Unfortunately I'm an average performer.
Your age or degree don’t have as much influence as your performance as that is what pushes the company forward. Work harder to become an above average performer or you can never catch up.
6 years for PhD and definitely not worth it if going to industry is the main goal. Mine was academia but it didn't work out for many reasons... Not complaining, ended up at Google. But still, if I joined the industry before master's and PhD, I would have been a director at minimum by now. But I think as your situation, without either degrees, getting recognized by recruiters would have been impossible (Nah, thank you, 3rd world graduate). For TC, yes catching up is definitely possible, but you can not catch up the savings they must have had by now as easy.
LOL try spending 7 years for a PhD instead :(

How long did your masters take? If it’s the usual 2 years, that sort of age difference is completely meaningless.
Yeah 2 years. It's meaningless after say 15 years. But it's a biggie in initial years.
Disagree. A 21yo fresh BS grad and 23yo fresh MS grad are viewed as equal by everyone else.
