What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Actively applying. There is a offer from the Broadcom team in Austin handling the DSP for their serdes IP. There is another interview I’m trying to wrap right now with Amazon on Project Kuiper (I’m interviewing for both teams in Seattle and San Diego for RF systems engineer, but I’d pick San Diego right now). The other interviews (MaxLinear, SpaceX, Qualcomm) either are taking too long for feedback on a job offer or just filled with annoying bs. Current job: IC Systems design for wireline comms. (Portland, OR) TC hovers around 105k (90k + 10% bonus + 8k stock). I ain’t staying. The merger with ADI is closing soon so I’m crossing my fingers my bonus will get paid early at merger closing before I’d give notice TC (Broadcom Austin): ~260k total pkg. (Edit: yearly it’s 170k) 120k base 15% base salary bonus per year 267 RSU (edit: total pkg. RSU. It is vested vested quarterly ( current stock price : 450)) YOE 3.5 P.S Like both Austin and San Diego, but partial to latter due to weather and having grown up there. #semiconductor #semiconductor #interview #interview #semiconductor #In your guys opinion, what offer from Amazon would be equivalent to this given col for San Diego?
Well yes sounds like your ceo doesn’t fuck around with setting corporate targets. I’m going to try and delay this up to a week and make sure the rest of the other guys get back to me faster.
go with space x or project kuiper
Any particular reason?
Broadcom is a junk company..not a place to grow. Innovation is discouraged. CEO is a sociopath
May I know what your specialization is..? You design system in MATLAB or are you a frontend designer who use verilog..
Yeah more like systems design in MATLAB and other relevant tools (ADS is one) if I suspect something signal integrity related is an issue. I sometimes transfer things in block level in Verilog for others or abstract transistor level blocks in Cadence to verify high level. Imagine other systems engineering roles in places like Qualcomm and you’d get a better picture
Ok. Thanks for the reply.
You seems have good skills and try applying for other companies with similar TC.
Try other companies and use this offer as bargaining but I would advise to join Broadcom if you don't have any other option left.
Good advise. Broadcom is good for killing your career
Why do u say that? Isnt brcm one of highest paying HW companies even more than APPL?
Apple also has serdes team. Although they are based in Cupertino and Boston
Level is a little low for your experience.
At 3.5 yoe I think he’s getting a fair offer
With 3.5 yoe in HW, 170 TC is actually amazing, especially in Austin. It’s a fair offer, master with 3.5 yoe gets ICB3. I doubt that you will get similar TC from other companies unless it’s Apple or Nvidia. But like other posters already mentioned, Broadcom corporate culture is very questionable, I agree that only the big pay day is the main driver for people to join, outside of pay there isn’t much to look forward to (could be team dependent also though)
Yes. They just sent out internal memo about each new hire that require visa sponsorship only count against as “half” a headcount; meaning hiring managers can double their headcount if they focus on candidates who require visa sponsorship. Think about what this means about their approach towards compensation management. Shady as f.
Does this mean that they pay less for candidates who require visa sponsorship?
I didn’t make it clear that the RSUs are vested quarterly so you’re correct there on tc. I did the same bad habit of listing total package tc and not effective per year tc. This is partially why I’m curious about the offer. How negotiable is the salary for Broadcom? I’m getting the impression they’re set pretty rigidly My company works similar in how the bonus works so I’m not going to dwell too much. but damn, 0%? How common is that? Would have made me think that they be pip’d at that point.
