In my team the Manager is very lazy. Don't take feedback seriously. The intern writes more codes than all the SDEs. Then what are the SDEs doing? 1. We as SDE are just resolving SAS and other security risks over the last 8 months 2. Heavy Oncall once every month Is this what we are hired for? Is this same in other companies as well? What will I say to the other companies when they ask what you did in Amazon? TC : ๐คฎ yoe : 1.75 I know it's time to leave #engineering #software #swe
It depends on how you choose your team. Definitely Look for tech survey if you move. I have been in Amazon India for 4 years and have always worked on greenfield initiatives. Never had to get up on weekends due to oncall in those 4 years.
New college hires do not have any options of choosing teams. They are always put in those where there is a high attrition
You can change teams internally OP. But have to do lot of due diligence to make sure next team is good. But again nothing is permanent. Your good team now can become shit in a year if manager leaves or key members leave
True. Most of the teams, including my ex-team score very low in software development area of the tech review every year. The only good thing I learnt at Amazon is good project management and people skills. Engineering is never the priority, it's all about metrics. Personal development is 0.
How is AdTech at amazon Bangalore? Recently scored an offer there. How is the tech? Work environment?
I donโt think itโs a culture thing.. you just got a dumbass manager .. I do see a lot of those at Amazon but please remember that it is the largest company in the world . You can find bad managers at Google and Facebook as well. When you do finally move on, make sure you interview the HM as much as he interviews you.. accept an offer only if you see good leadership capabilities and ability to grow and learn
If you're Amazon, India it's pretty common. I'm with Amazon, India for 5 years. I've worked with 3 teams. Know about lot more teams because of friends/colleagues over there. Most of the teams here don't have good development roadmap. And worse part is most of those teams would have such shitty managers. Things might be different in US teams I guess where active development are happening. But am not sure.
