What's horrible about it?

Intel Fjgr6Zha Jun 3, 2019

Little RSU !! (<10k)

Intel b**b swan Jun 3, 2019

This isn't true. Depends on your grade and performance. Rsus are decent grade 7 and above. However I do agree that the rsus are much much less than what faang folks are reporting on blind.

It depends

Intel Robswan Jun 3, 2019

Depends where at intel you end up in, there are really smart people doing really smart shit, but a lot of groups doing a lot of bs as well !

Lots of smart people doing really smart shit at intel and getting paid shit tc. Doesn’t sound very smart to me.

Intel Robswan Jun 3, 2019

Some people aren’t after money at all they just love the place they’re and very passionate about stuff they do ! Some intel locations except bayarea have good base pay stock grants sucks tbh !

Hardware companies rarely pay well

Words can barely describe how horrible Intel is.

HP does not stand for High Pay or Happy People

Intel Pointless4 Jun 3, 2019

I like my job at Intel... but as with any large company it’s very team dependent. I get paid well enough, but it’s not the top of the industry.

Intel JFOr15 Jun 3, 2019

It really depends on the team and org that you land up in. If you are in HW. You will learn a lot and your experience is really valued. If you are in software, then its a hit or miss. But mostly a miss

Software is the red-headed stepchild

Intel and HP are H1B haven's if that your thing. But usually H1B dominant companies don't pay very well since we and HP (and eBay, PayPal) scoop up the more desperate ones who can't get into FANG. Cisco and Oracle are probably the best paying for the run of the mill average engineer grunt of these H1B factories aka HOSPICES (HP, Oracle, SAP, Paypal, Intel, Cisco, eBay, SanDisk). These companies are all located in the South Bay, which explains Sunnyvale's Desi demographics. But I don't have to tell you that, Nutanix. Nutanix is one of the better paying Indian companies, from what I heard. You'd be hard pressed to get the same comp from Intel unless you come in at a higher grade. If you get come in as a Grade 8 or 9, it maybe OK, as long as you value WLB over FANG type 💰.

The software H1B Intel hires are not that sharp but occasionally when a good one gets hired they GTFO to FANG/Nvidia/Apple at the earliest opportunity. H1Bs hired today aren't concerned about Green Cards/if/when they ever get one. They're more concerned about getting paid fairly. There is a GPU compiler team at Intel Santa Clara that lost 50% of its Engineers to FANG in 2 months earlier this year !! 50% !! The software H1Bs remaining at Intel (with the exception of AIPG and compiler dev teams) are desperate like tu_madre says. Compiler Developers hired into Intel (and I would assume HP also) today are still very smart, having graduated from top schools too, and yes - they turned down FANG jobs to work on compilers at Intel. Intel is one of the few companies that will give new grads fresh out of MS with a specialization in compilers a real chance to work on compilers. The problem is that compiler folks get 2 years of experience at Intel then leave to FANG Nvidia or Apple for double the pay, again to work on compilers. The only sharp compiler folks still at Intel are oldies who stick around for the work life balance. Let's face it - compiler work puts most FANG jobs (infrastructure dev) to shame. Money isn't everything.
