Is working on Saturday a general trend in Amazon
Hi anyone from Amazon. I am going to join Amazon next month. I am currently worried about work life balance at Amazon. One of my friend told he goes to office for work on Saturdays as well. His whole team comes on Saturdays. I am just wondering is this a general work culture at Amazon specially at AWS?
Can be very hit or miss. Or seasonal. My entire team worked all of last weekend (Saturday and Sunday) due to an emergency popping up, so it happens.
I can understand working one or 2 Saturdays. But I am asking for on a regular basis like for a month or more?
Not constantly, like it’s not 100% expected. But my team has had a bunch of fire fighting lately so I would say we work at least 1 Saturday a month lately.
Is your question do we work on Saturday or do we need to go to work on Saturday
I've worked on Saturday once or twice when I wasn't oncall, in several years at Amazon; always by choice.
Which teams were you on?
This thread makes me sad. I don’t remember when was the last time I worked 40 hours a week. It has been always below 40.

It's usually a choice, not a requirement. With all the empire building going on, most teams are over staffed and fighting for work. Moving teams is always an option if your team is on death march.

I was an intern a while ago
My ex team at amzn had mandatory sat and sun work days for years in early AWS days. You had to use vaca days on weekends (even that meant a comment from your manager about staying on track)
It is not a general work culture. The company is very inconsistent in this, mostly dependant on different teams.
To clarify, I meant inconsistent with the amount of work. I haven't seen people coming in on Saturday. If any work had to be done on Saturday, I don't see why it wouldn't be done working from home and on your own schedule.
It’s common for a person to come and work on Saturdays just to reach at his goals. I am more concerned as a team culture😓
