Planning to buy a house where my kid may go here. Any idea how this elementary school is. Not so good ranking (only 7) in great schools.org. How much pinch of salt should i take these ratings with
It is not a top notch but a pretty good school. The ratings are based on test score which is proportional to the percentage of Asians :) Endeavour has a gifted program so if your child qualifies s/he doesn’t have to change a school. Commute may not be good as fall city road is very crowded but the city has a plan for expansion. As above person indicated, the district is a level below Bellevue and Lake Washington district. For one, it doesn’t have a choice school such as Tesla high or International. Its gifted program ends at elementary whereas Lake W has it till middle school and Bellevue has it all the way to high school.
Thanks. This is my first starter home. I may move in 7-8 years once my son is in middle school to a bigger house. So mostly looking for elementary for now... or should I think long term ?
For starter home, Issaquah school district is pretty good. Education in elementary school is not very different especially in the eastside. Issaquah school district is good enough even for high school. It is just that Bellevue and Lake W have more choices and resources which will be beneficial once your kids are in higher grade.
Greatschools ratings are a bullshit and change from 10 to 7 to 9 whenever they experiment with their ranking, about every 6 months. It is an excellent school based on experience of my two kids. Teachers are passionate about teaching the kids, lots of parents involved in volunteering and classroom help, good afterschool program with extracurricular activities (music etc for some extra fee). They used to have really great music teacher who retired a couple of years ago but I think the new one is also good though not as charismatic. As with any school, don't expect teachers to do everything. Spend some time with kids helping as needed, sign the kid up for some math class to deeper and kid will do great. Beaver Lake is a good middle school, Skyline High is awesome if kid takes advantage of the IB program. Kids from IB program whom I know had no problems adjusting to college and doing really well there.
ISD does not have special gifted program in middle school, instead it gives kids an option to jump over a year of education. I.e. in 6th grade my kid took 7th grade math, 7th grade social science etc. Basically PE was the only class to take with 6th graders. The only difference elementary gifted program makes is that kids from there can jump to 8th grade math. Other options include starting Spanish in 8th grade, but than PE has to be taken outside of the school which is easy if kid is doing any sports out of the school anyways. Kids can take high school level geometry and biology in middle school and transfer the grade to their highschool transcript if grade is good, to boost high school GPA.
While ISD does not have dedicated STEM school it does have STEM program that runs independently of gifted program https://www.issaquah.wednet.edu/academics/programs/ScienceTech Don't listen to people without first hand experience with the district.
I’m sure it’s fine you fuckers worry too much about school

I personally don’t like Issaquah schools as I feel the quality of education is lower than Bellevue or Sammamish. I would not buy in that district if I had a choice.
Thanks. How is sammamish schools vs north shore schools near bothel ?
