FB Remote Work Stress/expectations

May 2, 2021 15 Comments

Perhaps this was already discussed, but I hear a lot about how FB expects ICs to "deliver impact" and how you have to put in a lot of effort.

How does working remotely affect this if at all? Do people find that communication with teammates is harder and takes more effort? Does anyone feel like their work is less scrutinized? Have you been working more or less since offices closed?

I'm trying to decide whether to sign with fb @e4 or wait out Google team match, appreciate any info!

Wait out Google team match and pick the best offer you can.
Remote work is not a problem but stress is real.
You will grow faster at fb but you will probably work 50% more.

    • Thanks for the suggestion. I actually turned down 2 Google teams already because I felt like I would really not enjoy most of the work, but now the FB people are trying harder to get me to sign and I kind of wonder whether the risk of waiting for a better team at Google is worth it.

    • 400% more? Don’t spread these false shit man. People will read this shit and they won’t join us. And guess who has to do the work if we don’t hire new people? Us. Then it will really become 400%

  • Alright ended up signing with FB because I am not confident Google can get me a good team and a good offer if I turn FB down and wait. I guess we'll see how bad WLB is. I can always quit if I don't like it :P

  • Why are you unemployed? How long have you been jobless? Has it impacted your job search?

  • Okay bumping this because the Google recruiter heard the offer and said "I don't think we can beat that", do you guys think I can get anywhere close to 170/400/75 from Google? I could always quit fb for Google in under a year to get some more spare change but it feels a little too sleazy for me. I don't really care about the 100k I can make between now and the next equity vesting period, and I think I would be happy with like 170/350/50 from Google.

How about the expectations at fb for an e4, am I going to bust my ass trying to hit e5 or is it possible to be efficient with my time and effort? I guess one way to look at it is if I get e5 then I can go to Google later and not need to deal with the promo from l4 to 5.
