Microsoft JEDI Cancelled During Onboarding

Jul 6, 2021 32 Comments

Hey y'all,

Today it was announced that the DoD has cancelled the JEDI contract with Microsoft and instead is working on another contract to include Amazon in with them.

I am currently going through the pre-hire process with Microsoft and didn't know how this would affect my job. I've already accepted the offer and have a start date in a few weeks.

I called my recruiter and they informed me my job was safe, although I'm not sure how much I can trust them. I was brought on specifically for this contract but was told MS has a lot of other DoD contracts I can be moved to.

I've got a backup but that's not 100% sure either. I already gave my 2 weeks notice at my current position. Anyone got any idea how much I should be worried about this? Thanks!

Current:
Base: 73k
TC = 73k

MS:
Base: 122k
Clearance Bonus: 15%
Signing Bonus: 10k
Stock: 30k / 4 = 7500/year
TC = $157,800

YOE: 1

I feel like I got low balled on my TC, but wanted to MS brand on the resume.

    it is not fully scraped, DoD just reframing it.

    I would say they will need you more than ever, now they have to compete with AWS.

      Yeah AWS vs Azure is heating up especially in the .gov space. If you have or can get clearance they will have no end of work for you. Even if you don't have clearance they will have lots of general features they need built towards winning these contracts.

  • I believe them that there are other projects. You can only hire so fast and the number of positions available is still large

  • You are safe until after your first review. There is a do not lay off policy until you get your first review, probably for legal reasons. If you are one of the tagged diverse races or gender, you pretty much are 100% ok since managers get extra bonus for hiring you and are a hot commodity

      wow, how insulting it might be to realize you are a diversity hire and got a job only for your skin and not the skill

      Microsoft sounds upset at the new push for diversity and inclusion - and appears to make an attempt at discrediting qualifications and achievements of underrepresented groups who were less favored during the hiring process due to unconscious bias - the data to support that claim is publicly available
