I currently work as an SDE-1 at Microsoft. I have a strong command over ML and data science, research experience at some good labs during my MS, some good workshop publications and data science internships as well.
Do I stand a chance in Applied Scientist roles? I am guessing research scientist positions need a PhD.
If anyone can provide some insight, I can DM. Iβll be super grateful! #tech

Google and Facebook have no such thing as Applied Scientist. Only SWE or research scientist, which yes usually requires a PhD and very few head count these days.
Research Scientist - need PhD. Publishes 1-2 papers per year in the role. Less about translating existing papers to business problems and more advancing the state of the art. Tends to serve as a marketing/PR/recruiting role for the company
