Aug 11, 2021 275 Comments

Hi all, I got an offer from Deloitte, and I am currently cognizant employee. I have submitted my resignation last Monday. Today my cts manager called and asking for a offer letter to check with HR to match the offer I got from Deloitte.
Is it okay to share the offer letter??

Thanks in Advance!!

Would you stay if they tried to meet or beat the offer? I don't think it's a good idea to leverage a raise out of a threat to quit. They may give you the raise, but you could just as easily be marked and be the first to be laid off leaving you to look for a job while not employed.

Agreed, staying is very risky because the bridge is already burned. It's highly likely that the company will look for a replacement and fire you afterwards.

  • This happened to me many years ago, I had asked my manager for a raise 2-3 weeks before i was offered a new role at a new company, the manager told me he couldn't do anything for me. I thought to myself, you are going to be sorry one day soon. A couple of weeks later I got an offer from a good company that was closer to the house, etc and paid 1/3 more than what I was making. I sent the manager an email with my resignation since he was OOO until the next Monday and when he came in Monday he was sweating bullets. He offered me some bs amount that wouldn't be effective for 2-3 months and a 1 time bonus of crap. I told him that I was sorry but that wasnt going to cut it. He then asked if he could ask where I was going and how much I would be making. I told him no, and that it didn't matter, but what he was offering was no where close to what I would be making at the new company and that Thursday would be my last day.

I said all that to say this...don't tell your current employer shit and go on and take the new job. If they didn't appreciate you before, why do you think they will do so now? #1 cardinal rule of job hunting...Never, ever, ever take a counter offer. You will be in the crosshairs every day you stay there.

  • Don't share it, there's probably a clause somewhere saying its confidential anyway.

  • If you want to stay in case they match - Mention numbers verbally, politely decline to share written offer, give any excuse of NDA and all. If they really want to retain they will trust you and if they dont you have your answer

If you want to leave anyway - Dosent matter just decline

In any case never share the written offer
