How often, on your team, are you redoing other peoples work, or having yours redone? Or, is this done in reviews/ via feedback, instead of in Figma with new designs?

I’m curious about your teams collaborative process. Tell me all. What works for you? What doesn’t?

I’ve never had someone redo my work and I’ve never redone another designer’s work.

If someone’s work needs to be redone, it has only been when a designer leaves or rolls onto another project, and someone else picks up their old work and notices a bunch of issues. This has probably happened 3-4 times in the past 18 months.

However, as a routine, no one is ever redoing anyone’s work. That sounds crazy. We have critiques and provide feedback, and if changes need to be made, we discuss them and the designer who is responsible takes the lead on incorporating the feedback.

Used to be at MS, it was pretty common for senior / leads to just redo or offer alternative ‘recommendations’. I don’t want to be anywhere like that again.

Am experiencing that now. I usually try to give feedback etc, but not like straight up redo someone’s work… it seems so shitty.

Sorry to hear that, it sucks :(
I think design leadership there doesn’t understand how to support design career development beyond making good designers become shit managers.

That sounds quite toxic actually, none of the companies I’ve worked at have a practice of designers redoing other peoples work. It’s especially disempowering and causes resentment, reduces ownership over the product and decision-making roles, and it’s really rude. Senior/lead designers should just give constructive feedback, redoing works wastes everyone’s time.

Is it better at Amazon? I haven’t done UX outside of MS. I’m not sure if my expectations of norm are off….

It’s different - better in some ways (more autonomy, less meddling from others) but worse/harder in others (more responsibility and effort required to cover more ground).
