Friend has PM offers for a big gaming company (one of Riot/EA/ATVI) in LA and a well known tier 2 tech company (remote). Thoughts on which one would be better for long term career success (growth + impact wise)? Very passionate about gaming but also donโt want to be pigeon holed/set behind if want to switch to a big tech firm later on.
Remote company TC will be ~200k, still waiting on numbers for other one.

Bigger gaming companies have better recognition if you plan to switch to different companies and roles later. Just be aware that gaming in general has pretty rough WLB and job security.
PM might have a path to game design, if that happens to be their end goal. But I think a lot of places consider PMs closer to Producer there, which is weird.
Also consider mobile gaming. Cut throat, but also very lucrative compared to AAA studios. Bang or bust.
Once we go back Riot will have a model where we are in the office Tue, Wed, and Thur and work from anywhere the other two days. While it will be nice to work from home two days per week, it still forces you to be somewhat close to the office.
