Hello blinders - Whatโ€™s your opinion about Reddit?

With the recent growth (๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’ช mania) and the rumours about potential IPO at 15B (their valuation is already @10B).

I am hearing lot of mixed things about their great work culture, interesting technical challenges and also their problems around scaling and monetization.

Does it make sense to join Reddit now?

Context: I was recently approached by a recruiter for a Staff Software Engineer role.

Reddit is one of the most used websites on the planet. Why donโ€™t they make a lot more money than they currently are?

Reddit is relatively small, in terms of number of employees, compared to other similar platforms. I think 5-10 years ago there were fewer than a hundred employees. It takes people to build an ads platform and sell ads.

5 years ago from today, the ads engineering org at Reddit was fewer than 5 people, and a single PM in charge of monetization. We are late to the game, we yet havenโ€™t put in nearly enough hours in building our systems to monetize the site. There is a significant amount of work to do in order to reach product parity with competitors. The size of the online advertising pie is massive, and we are rapidly increasing our take. Lots of upside to joining Reddit.

I don't know about the work, but reddit seems far better than FB on the consumer side, these days

Joining Reddit soon. I do believe in the company future, and culture seems to the best among companies I got offers from.
