Uber Phone Interview. WTF?!?

Feb 2 5 Comments

I had a scheduled call with an Uber Senior Tech Recruiter (K.S.) to discuss a role. She ghosted me the first time so I rescheduled to another time. She did follow through with phoning me the second time. Unfortunately, it wasn't the best time because I was called into an impromptu meeting at work so when she asked if now was a good time, I politely requested if we could discuss the role in another 30 min. Then she said on the phone that it wasn't the best fit and that basically I was unqualified because it is an ML role. First of all, I have been in the ML space for the last 5 years as both an ML Engineer and Data Scientist so I didn't understand her reasoning. Secondly, if I was unqualified why did she want to reach out for a phone interview in the first place? Did she literally just call me to tell me all this? What a waste of my time. #tech #uber #interview #career

Best thing is to move on and not think too much about it. You dodged a bullet if thats how they interview people.

Interviewed thrice with them. Didn’t have a good experience. They’re horrible. Just move on.

I think some of those automated messages that recruiters send have become increasingly more personalized. I have a feeling the email was actually automated.

I recently interviewed for a role that required a bit more experience than I had. At the end of the intro call, we agreed I would send my resume in anyway since they had 0 candidates. But then I said nah, f that.

Then 2 days later I got an email that said that I wasn’t the best fit due to years of experience.

So I imagine they just said screw this person (on stupidity of course, since you had a reason you couldn’t attend that interview). They probz just hit the ‘next’ button which resulted in that email.

    • Yeah I think that's exactly what happened. After I said I wanted to reschedule, she knew she didn't want to talk to me anymore to save time and effort. There's already a huge candidate pool I bet.
