Is it normal to get crazy problems like Dijkstra even at non FAANG companies like VMWare?

Subject. I just feel defeated. Solved about 70 LC problems but haven't touched Dijkstra in over a year. Ffs has interviewing really gotten this hard or was it always this way?

Isn't HBO Max TC on par with tech companies these days?

I think that's just the industry now. But if they're bringing up segment trees, treaps, or suffix trees (or the like) they probably want you to fail.

Last time I went for Google, a buddy gave me a LC hard minimax dp. Just roll with the punches my guy.

    • I try to but it's exhausting to go through 5 hours of getting punched in the face for each loop, and if it's ultimately going to result in a rejection, it's like why even bother? Thought I did an ok job for non FAANG doing close to 100 LC problems but it just didn't make a difference.

I think it's best to approach interviews as a learning opportunity and decouple yourself from the results. Just do your best, and then try to learn something from the experience.

Also, during the question period you can try to probe the interviewer about their projects and learnings.

  • These type of questions do not test candidates skills TBH. Taking interviews also require skills.

70 feel like not enough, at least do around 200. But yea Dijkstra is not hard, but if you never touched it, it would be hard to figure outโ€ฆ.. move on, I wouldnโ€™t consider non fang non hot startup anyways
