Looks like it's time to stop buying Apple laptops

Why isn't anyone talking about this?!

Looks like Apple has laid waste to all things privacy and may bring us to the 1984 future we all predicted would happen. This is really creepy and disgusting.

Are you 10? Sheez Hitler. Grow up.

If you really want to go down that route, people from your company should just hide face. Don't even bother to step into this conversation.

Thought this video was going to be crap, but leaking traffic outside a VPN is awful security. I thought Apple was much better than this.

Yeah, I get the walled garden, but security/privacy should be better in that garden, not worse.

Not necessarily. The kinds of security Apple is worried about is malicious apps making it onto the device--or, more broadly, an adverse user experience for their customer base. Most people don't use VPNs--those that do mostly don't really care about leaking traffic outside the VPN.

Tech savvy folk certainly will, but those aren't the majority of Apple's customer base.

With privacy: Apple has more of a vested interest in keeping you in their ecosystem and earning money off you whole you're there. Their systems are built around that--whatever privacy they may offer is incidental; a convenient marketing bullet point they can use against Google, since Apple's business isn't selling ads.

As such, you see them restricting the apps you can run via notarization (ostensibly for security), which requires phoning home to check app signatures: privacy sacrificed for the walls of the garden
