Japan has always had the most mask compliance of any country near 100%. Back in spring of 2020 news organizations such as NY Times, Fauci and politicians said Japan was the gold standard of mask wearing and that is why the “beat” the covid virus.

There are also variants that are driving third waves in a lot of countries. So the read of the data isn’t necessarily “masks are useless”, but rather “craptard, things are bad! And they’d be SOOOO much worse without masks”.
