I have masters from one of the top 4 colleges in states for CS and am shooting for the Research scientist positions. But not receiving offers for research scientist positions. My research track and profile is very strong with several papers.

Any tips appreciated?

Also I am not sure on whether to work as a research scientist is beneficial or get PhD next year or join a startup. All of this is driving me crazy

You need PhD for research scientist jobs. Maybe with 10 yoe after masters you could be hired without PhD but usually not.

Christ. Considering the atrocious grammar in some of these posts, I’m flabbergasted some of these individuals weren’t laughed out of the room when defending their PhD thesis.

If I can manage to type things up with proper grammar in under 10 seconds without a PhD, yeah, I expect a PhD to be able to do the same?

You obviously have inclination to be careful in language. That’s great. Technical departments are full of non native speakers, usually language is not their first priority, but their research. Ideally everyone should use language properly but it is not reality.

If you try to say, since you write with proper grammar rules you are superior. You might be superior in writing with proper grammar but that’s it.

What you wrote don’t contribute anything for this thread.

Consider joining as SWE & then switch internally.

Seems like u missed to network when u went to present ur paper. Need PhD to be a scientist is bullshit and happens only at yahoo. Now they don't even have a research group. If your papers are really good in top tier conferences u will automatically make connections in research and at least land interviews through that.

Because you're competing against people who have PhDs. Look on LinkedIn and find people doing what you'd like to do. Take a glance at their profiles and see if they tend to a doctorate. I could be wrong, but that's what I've seen.
