Facebook behavioral interview; best project question

Nov 12, 2018 5 Comments

I have facebook onsite next week. The recruiter told me to be ready with one good project I worked on for behavioral interview.
My first q is what exactly do u look for in this question?
I have shortlisted 2 projects. First is not a highly technical project, but I acted as a self-starter and raised above what was expected of me. It was a demoable project and I even got an award for it. Second is a technical project (redesign a db schema), very technical, had to deep-dive into the way Oracle works and involved interacting with many teams. Which one do I chose? Or talk about both?
My last question is, in the 45 mins interview, how many minutes (approx) do I spend on this question?

I'm not sure abt Fb but Amazon and Google for example have a list of leadership principles. The Q "tell me about a project you're really proud of" should highlight using a few of these principles and job-specific technology/skills as well. So pick the one that has the most overlap.

They have a list of values like being hands-on, mentor others, solve for diversity, put the user first, build for scale, make data driven decisions etc

  • Make sure you can demo the good behavior shown from the project you choose: goals setting and measure success, how you collaborated with others, what were the success points, what wasn’t too successful and how you dealt with it, how it was a tam project rather than a solo, etc.
