Tips to get deal on flight tickets?

Which website is good ? Kayak , expedia ? Any last minute deal kind of thing ? Current tc - 190k

VMware taipeiman Jan 23, 2022

I have a good trick: lc and increase tc. Flights will start looking cheaper

But if I’m being serious, try skyscanner and google flights maybe? That’s pretty much all I do

Google Flights is the gold standard to find flights for arbitrary locations for arbitrary dates if you're looking in advance.

It is legit good. I hope google doesn’t cancel it like all the myriad of services they have trashed.

One thing I'll add is, after finding the flight, always book it directly from the airlines' websites. That's because the business model of aggregators like Kayak and Expedia runs on stabbing you for cancellation and reschedule fees. This has been verified by dozens of frequent international travelers (like my friends and I). Don't ever use Expedia to book via their interface. Heck, even booking via your credit card company would be a better option at that point.

Screw Expedia. Their cancellation policy sucks. Buy directly from the airline website. It’s not worth going through Expedia

This, I’ve been burned twice … not again

Google flights..it doesn’t include southwest though which sucks

VMware taipeiman Jan 23, 2022

That’s true but it’s more cause southwest doesn’t allow that than the other way round. Even skyscanner doesn’t have southwest nor do any other search platform( I may be wrong). So usually along with my usual search, I make it a point to check southwest separately as well

Sometimes booking with points is much cheaper than dollars if you're doing last minute. They're trying to get rid of these loopholes though, so I haven't seen it as often.

You can use sites to find flights, but they are never cheaper than direct via airline

I used to work in ticketing. Try to book your departure and arrival on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Try to book for the flights between 12 pm and 3 p.m.. the rest, whether you use expedia, kayak, etc, will sort itself out.

I personally use Google Flights and Momondo to search flights but then I go to airlines website to book directly. If you’re looking for last minute deals, sign up for Scotts Cheap Flights
