How exactly does team match after HC work at google?

Apr 28 11 Comments

1. After you chat with a HM, what does the HM do if they want to move ahead?
2. How long after a TM call can there be confirmation?
3. After TM confirmation, how long does it take to get an offer?
4. Who decides comp?
5. Is there room for negotiation?

  • 1. They tell your recruiter
    2. <1 business day, but can vary
    3. 1 business day
    4. Not HM if that’s what you’re wondering. It’s the comp team
    5. There’s always room for negotiation
This is from my recent experience

  • From my recent experience,

    1. They let your recruiter know that they want to hire you (or not hire you)
    2. I had HMs submit their feedback anywhere between 3 days to a month. Could have taken longer but I matched with another that got back quicker.
    3. As soon as there’s at least one team interested in you, offer process begins.
    4. Compensation team (not the HM)
    5. Yes and no - I was asked to give them my expected numbers and competing offers. I gave them that and they gave me a best and final offer with no room for negotiation. Don’t give up your info so quickly.

I recently went through team matching for L4 SWE
    1. Tells recruiter and then recruiter will tell you
    2. After 1 week, recruiter told me HM wants me to meet another team member, I got confirmation from recruiter 2 days after meeting with the team member.
    3. 1 day to get a verbal offer, 2 days for written offer
    4. Recruiter sends your packet to comp committee and they will decide
    5. Yes - if you have competing offers, you can negotiate with your recruiter and your recruiter will forward the info to comp committee. I didn't have any competing offers and I was happy with my comp numbers so didn't negotiate

No, it wasn't an interview. Just an informal conversation. HM only asked me one question - what am I looking for in my next role? I asked him 8-10 questions. The conversation with the team member was a bit more in depth, we both discussed our previous projects.

    • Ok sweet, thank you! Have L3 loop coming up and I’m not thinking past the interview, but this is great to know. Hopefully I get to this point like you all
