Got ghosted by recruiter/hiring manager for finance positions at two tech firms recently. I'm ok with rejection itself since I am happy where I am and wasn't even actively looking - but I just didn't think it was professional of them to go radio silent after a series of interviews, especially with both instances having been initiated by recruiters reaching out to me on linkedin. Is job ghosting fairly common these days?

Unfortunately it’s becoming very common, particularly since they want to keep you warm potentially if the applicants ahead of you in priority collect multiple offers and sign away. The firm wants plausible deniability to bring you in at a later date. But all that being said, I completely agree that once you hire for that position and it’s filled, the company should let the remaining candidates know as a professional courtesy. Goes without saying that HR is among the worst groups in general for professional courtesy.
Yea it's just really unfortunate that the communication etiquette doesn't seem to go both ways. I, as a candidate, would try to accommodate a good interview time for the interviewers and keep the company updated if I secure an offer at another company and so forth. I always try to respond asap to an email from the recruiter. I suppose it's just not something I should be expecting from them in return these days.
