After an interview with Wipro, I received a letter of intent from them saying they found me suitable for a “Project Engineer” position Career Band A3. If I’m not mistaken the assignment would be through Facebook. I’ve never worked in the IT field, but considering that I currently work in manufacturing, which I am currently not too fond of at the moment, I am open to the possibly of a career change gaining experience in IT. Considering my current circumstance, should I accept this offer? Is there anything I should know about this company that I should possibly keep an eye open for? Any advice or info would be appreciated
Which city is this for?
Austin, TX
If you have a family to support $45k is not enough for the Austin area unless your are frugal.
Well wipro will make you work all day and night and do off shore calls all through night. So if you are up for it then go for it.
$45K seems low even for a junior role, but if you are looking for a switch you might use it as a start and leave as soon as you have another offer. Keep interviewing is all I can say even if you accept or deny this offer. Good luck
Even for Austin I would except Atleast 60k entry level
Lol Wipro. They’ll extract $5Mn worth work out of you for that pay scale. Ask them to go higher, it’s a job seeker market at present. If they’re going to subcon you to FB, they’re probably charging those guys at least 3-4 times of what they are offering you.
This is very true. The billing per hour is usually will be 90-120 per hour. Also with h1bs getting denied for them they are in need of local folks. So demand
You can have Facebook in your resume which will help you in future jobs But even after that the offered salary is very low
Thank you guys, I appreciate all the feedback! Based on the replies I may go ahead and negotiate the offer, but if so, how high should I negotiate? Pardon me, this is my first salary based employment offer so I just wanna make sure I am taking the proper steps.
There’s certainly room for negotiation, Right now if We calculate on $45K without deducting the taxes the hourly rate is ~21$ which is low. IMO Why don’t you ask for $40/hour and the total would be around ~82K and see how much they can offer .
There is no harm in asking for more always. They can always say no. Push for 65k and settle for 60k being the job being important for you as well.
Ask at least 80k . They treat you like a slave and no raises afterwards…
Why such a low salary? If it is like any of the other Indian companies they will make you work long hours and have 24/7 availability working Monday-Saturday they will squeeze every last drop of productivity out of you. Maybe WiPro is not as bad as some of the other Indian companies but beware.
