I know Walmart will do great during a recession. That's where I work now in NYC. I also have an offer with Spotify. I'd be remote at first because of covid. Is it worth the risk with a recession likely starting now? How would Spotify perform?
Depends on tc
150k-170k. 2yoe
People consume more content working from home so wouldn't be worried about that at least
If its MANG, leave Walmart. Else stay put. MANG = Microsoft, Apple, Netflix, Google Even if its Facebook, Amazon - consider a little because of bad culture and shaky business models of both esp FB.
With Spotify, better if you stay with Walmart. But you from Jet and working from NYC so find another team as Jet is not in good books anymore from what I heard.
OP, I’m in a similar position. What did you end up deciding?
Did you move to Spotify?

Only way Spotify will go down is through competitors and right now it's first in its field by a country mile.
hmm good point. if anything it might do better if it's competitors fall
Spotify’s competition is Apple and Amazon. The only reason Spotify is alive is that those two dont rely on music/podcast revenue. Its a side show. at best. Their retail businesses make more money per week than the entire music industry does per year. If you are worried about times ahead, i would suggest sticking with big retail. Its true that streaming businesses will likely see a user increase in Q1 reports, but also remember who is gonna get unsubscribed if times get tough. If you need to leave or have a baby on the way (see paternity leave policy), welcome to Spotify, although in that case this is a pointless question.
