I have mostly worked with one employer all my life in IT. Last time i did coding was 20 years back. Though, i write Sql queries even today. I did coding in Fortran, Pascal in school followed by years in cobol, PL/1, IBM assembler & abap. I am not ready to retire and still have a decent job. However, I want to go back to SWE role. Is that possible? I constantly hear about age bias. I have taken few courses on python, java, js etc over years. looking forward to hear your thoughts.
Why? There are other occupations to keep you busy
I used to love coding. It still fascinates me.
Then of course you should do coding. Why wouldn’t you focus on legacy code then? Young people hate supporting old stuff, yet someone has to do it. Think of cobol. There’s a lot of interesting legacy code like DOS that support ATM or Solaris bios etc
Yes I think it’s possible. Recommendations: 1. Get referred to the companies you are interested in rather than submitting an application. 2. Leetcode.com is the standard resource for SWE interview prep. Have you managed people in the past? Considered EM?
Thanks. Yes. I managed & is managing team today.
