I want career advice in Software Industry as I have high myopia and may loose central vision in future. I am a fresh Computer Engineering graduate. I am on F1 visa now.
You might want to max the disability insurance.
Consider Microsoft. They are extremely inclusive for people with disabilities. I know s blind dev at Microsoft, not directly but via friend.
A neighbor team in MS has a blind woman dev. She's been working for several years in this state.
Microsoft is truly one of the most accommodating places to work for people with different physical abilities. I’m always impressed at the lengths we go to ensure folks can do their jobs properly.
Facebook has an accessibility product engineering team who build features for people who are vision/ hearing impaired. One of the senior engineers is blind. There are ways to accommodate your abilities in the workplace and your lived experience can provide valuable insight.
Depending on your background and education you may consider technical program manager, program manager, project manager, doc writing, or help documentation writing. I’ve personally worked with a doc writer that was legally blind and she was a rockstar. Larger companies like Salesforce, Google, and Facebook will have more policies, tools, and ability to set you up for success.
Thanks everyone for response

The company would lay me off if I loose sight in future?
Yes, in case you won't be able to perform your direct duties.
Consider the field of software accessibility. There aren’t that many experts in the field, all the large companies need to adhere to ADA guidelines with their products, there’s a lot of demand edit: if you start specializing now, loss of sight will not affect your job at all. Part of the job is to test and write software with accessibility in mind, sighted people rarely know how to navigate the tools properly.
