Job switch for position upgrade

Jan 21 1 Comment

Hello world!

I wanted to weigh in my options for a position upgrade with a possible job switch.

I've worked in a startup internationally for 2 years as RF developer and currently completed a year as an RF engineer in US at Qualcomm after a Masters degree.

Will it be a wise decision to switch jobs to a different company possible Apple/ Google with a goal to join as a Senior engineer? (Position upgrade) Or should I wait at my current job and switch at a later stage in my career after I get promoted in the current job? Will the relevant start-up experience ever count?
If yes then ideally I would have 3 years relevant experience and 2 years of Masters.

Job switch seems to be on deck as we know QC doesn't pay much to NCG.

I understand there are a ton of factors which reels in deciding a promotion but I'm looking for a general opinion from other experienced people from the industry about this decision.

Thanks.

I'd say better to join the big league with position upgrade if you can. Most likely even if you're promoted at your current role, when interviewing with FAANG they might not value that. If you're okay with down leveled then the 2nd option is viable too.
