Need suggestions from who may have been in a similar situation. I am on H1B (approved I140) and looking to switch jobs. I have a couple of offers, and having a hard time choosing one of them. Both have their pros and cons- Offer 1- full time with a mid range company Pros -Full time position. -Good work-life balance. -Great benefits. -H1B likely to be approved for 3 yrs. Cons -A very small hike in pay. -A medium range company, with about 150 employees. I have always worked for bigger companies. -Role and designation look like a demotion from current role (but has a scope for bigger role based on performance) Offer 2- contracting role with a big company Pros -Great role, bigger responsibilities than the current one -Good pay hike -Big client and a reputed US based staffing company Cons -Visa extensions dependent on client letter -H1B approval may be for a 1.5 yrs to 2 yrs Edit 1- added more details based on feedback from comments- I am an Indian, long term goal is to get a green card. Priority date Feb 2017, I140 approved. Wife about to start work on H4 EAD, so my job stability important for her career. Thanks in advance for your time.
Would help to know if you are Indian or Chinese or other and what your long term intention is (I assume green card).
Thanks for your response. I am an Indian with an intention to get a green card. Priority date Feb 2017. I have added these details to the question as well.
Contracting is a bad idea in the current state of affairs.
Don't do this. What I have heard is the risk is more in contacting based job
Offer 1 anytime. Job security is more important than money
Offer 1. Once you are an FTE, you can negotiate for better pay at the same firm, or switch jobs.
Keep looking
Thanks!
