we eng are honest. do not if it applies to sales like you are
This is 2019 - you need to put a creative spin on it: Software Visionary Huge-Scale Systems Architect Universal Generalist Certified 50m Agile Sprinter Engineering Renaissance Man Developer with Highest Distinctions Programmer Guru
Just put "thought leader". That always impresses people.
I always put Principle Engineer at Google
Are you ?
Whatever you feel like.
I just say Software Engineer - rest, interviewers decide.
Don’t write something that won’t hold legally! Ask yourself, if you are applying for H1/GC/Citizenship and you need to provide job title, what would you do? People at Netflix earn 300k-800k as Sr. Software Engineer. So you think people at the higher end can start writing Principal/Distinguished Software Engineer? If you’re unofficially a leader mention that on the resume and prove that in the interviews!
Are h1b administrators looking at LinkedIn titles too?
It’s about honesty, not getting caught by some admin or govt official. Are you dumb or can’t think abstractly? If someone is Principal Eng. on the resume, I’d like his background check or verification to return same info. In case of FB like system (all are SWE) they can mention level in the resume (which I believe will hold in background check).
