Hi, Recently i got an offer from FB London for Enterprise Engineer role for E4 Level. Currently I'm working at Amazon India as SDE1(~1.8yr YOE) L4 level. Shall I join FB with the given role? 1. I was referred for E4 SWE at Facebook, but since they don't have E4 openings at London, they reached out to me with a EE role. 2. The recruiter mentioned there won't be any SWE E4 openings for next 6months, hence i interviewed with them. 3. Recruiter said that as an EE, I'll be working on internal projects like other SWE and can switch to SWE after 1year. What should I do now? Is it worth joining? Just wanted to leave Amazon to get rid of the pathetic WLB, but good learning curve in current team. FB offer: £76k + 10% bonus + £10k Relocation + £90k shares/4years #facebook #amazon #enterpriseengineer #london
How they conducted your interview, they invited you to London for onsite. Looking for free London trip lol
That's a pretty good base salary offered for your YoE. Did you have any competing offer?
Nope, I just had a good interview. TC is great and relocating to London is also something i really wanted. It's just the org/projects/tech of Enterprise Engineering that's bothering me. Trying hard to re-interview for SWE role.
All the best :)
Do you know if it's possible to move to the US office within the EE org?
SDE to EE sounds terrible, specially Amazon SDE to EE. No matter how bad Amazon maybe but Amazon SDEs get to work on cool or core stuff, you will be disappointed by the work as EE.
Exactly, this SDE to EE is bugging me a lot. Will update if I'm able to get a SWE Interview.
Congats OP. Can you share some tips for design question preparation?
It was mainly Grokking the System Design Interview, Designing Data Intensive Applications and some more videos from YouTube. I would say your day to day experience at work plays a vital role here. If you're involved in lot of HLD/LLD discussions/reviews, you get the idea.
Thanks!
I would suggest joining FB. Money is good, and you would get a decent exposure to new technologies while living in a new country.
I'm told that I have to wait for next 6-12months, until they have headcount for E4 SWE. Meanwhile, they've revised my compensation for EE and informed me about the projects I'll be working on. Base: £76k Joining: £15k Relocation: £15k Shares: £100k GBP (~ $130k USD) Yearly Bonus: 10% They said it's the same package offered to any E4 SWE with same YOE as mine(~1.8months) from FANG companies. Can somebody confirm?
Don't make a decision on initial figures. Weigh the growth prospects
London ja. Maja kar. Bore ho gaya toh London mai dusri switch maarle baad mei. Bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush.
Surprisingly I am too in the exact same situation ( Amazon India SD1(1.3 years) to FB London EE4). I have also got the same offer that you have. Did your recruiter agree for SWE E4 interview?
no. absolutely dont do it. was also fooled by this. EE projects are crappy php react tools that integrate with Oracle. management and talent bar is an embarrassment. SWE transfer requires reinterviewing technicals (so hit that leetcode) AND good performance. EE sign on equity is also much lower compared to SWEs and it wont be adjusted if you transfer. Tell your recruiter to switch you to SWE E4 recruiting pipeline and be prepared to interview and wait 6months. you Will absolutely regret it if you accept that EE role, especially as an ex FANG SWE
Shit, I was told a completely different story. Thanks for the details man. I tried to convince him earlier for SWE, let me discuss with him. I'm scared if I lose the opportunity to interview at FB at all. Did you join FB with that role?
i did after Uber thinking it would be awesome to work at FB and now im at another FANG. most EE hires leave after a year when they either succeed to transfer to SWE or failed to transfer to SWE and leave. that means the only EEs who are left to mentor and grow from are subpar talent and resting vesting their hilariously low RSUs. youll feel brain dead working at EE
