Joined microsoft 2 weeks ago but just got an offer from Bloomberg. Job security point of view does it make sense to leave? How to handle background check and visa transfer? Mainly concerned about layoff and recession. Never heard of Bloomberg laying off whereas microsoft has pretty much regular layoffs, rifs and reorgs. Both companies will do green card for me but it will take 3 years. TC:170K atl #renege #rescind
Microsoft hasn’t really had a mass layoff since 2014 with the ceo change.
I was looking at 2009
Saw ton of rif posts
What level at msft? Bloomberg is pretty safe. Their pay will be better than msft. Join Bloomberg

Layoffs are really not super common at MS these days. Especially if you don’t suck.
You say MSFT has pretty regular layoffs and then you cite 2009 ? Unless you really want to move to NYC, MSFT beats Bloomberg in most respects. Maybe stick on for some time and then try FAANG ?
Agreed. Microsoft > Bloomberg
I only have 3 years left on h1b. I can't move for 3 years since green card takes long
Bloomberg got destroyed in 2009. Msft was the place to be during the last recession.
Developers?
Bloombergs bread and butter is essential regardless of how the market is doing. Funds make money in bear or bull markets. They want the terminal even with its shitty UI surprisingly. Also, your pay is all cash so you still keep making the same even if your MSFT stock drops 10-20% (or even more with how overpriced tech stocks are). Refreshers are also peanuts at MSFT so you have a cliff with your comp unless you’re routinely getting high reviews. I’ve never heard of a lay off in engineering at Bloomberg. We lose too many to google or Facebook to be letting engineers go.
Just stay at Microsoft. Worst case, you don't like your team or job and you can switch teams. Don't chase a tiny difference in TC and leave a trail of carnage and bad reputation behind. There's an opportunity cost in both directions.
tbh I would stick with msft. Pretty sure others already mentioned but I wouldn't worry about layoffs in msft. I would probably only consider Bloomberg if TC is a significant increase.
If you prefer NYC go to Bloomberg. It will pay more than MS too. Whatever MS has offered you, you can probably ask for 30-50K more from Bloomberg and get it. And yes Bloomberg is more recession proof has literally never layed off SWEs, most profits go to charity and keeps losing talent to even better paying companies so no reason to ever layoff. And nobody is going to care about you leaving after 2 weeks, you can just say Bloomberg was your top option and you accepted MS not expecting an offer from BB but then you got it.
Don't care for NYC tbh. Just looking at the more stable option. Msft is stable for sure but Bloomberg is rock solid.
More worried about handling bg check etc.
If you’re really concerned about layoffs go to bloomberg.
