Is there worth taking the risk to join a freshly created team where all devs will start together from scratch and build new systems? If you join after a year or two, they might be more stable in terms of goal and charter but they will have a history which you wont be a part of and you will miss out on the actual experience of building something from nothing. Also ive noticed if the team has a lot of stable systems built for a long period of time i just feel like an idiot when they discuss as ive no clue what they talking about.
Internally
Ive been at Amazon for almost 6 months now. Its working out good for me as i like my team and my manager is happy with my performance. Everything was going good until last week i found out a new aws team is being formed and they are looking for a few sdes. This is like a golden chance for me to join a team when being freshly created and see it built from scratch. Also i have always been more interested in aws over amazon business/marketplace but since im very satisfied with my current team and manager should i switch or stay?
personally id favor the chance of working on something new from scratch for the fun and the learning. if you’re on good terms with your manager, you can probably return if necessary. maybe your manager would even want to join later if the new team takes off and grows.
A new team is risky IMO. Unless everyone is equally interested & happy to be a part of a new team, it might go either way. I would be vary.
internally of outside of amzn? either way, yes it’s worth the risk
