Should I jump ship to g/fb only for the money? I am currently doing very well at msft. Top performer on the team recognized by skip and her manager. High impact project visible to VPs. Already a tech lead <2 yrs after college. Business grp is company's strategic focus (think Azure). Meanwhile I am seeing ppl jumping to g/fb then making much more than I do. I don't see any reason to jump other than the money. Should I do that?
Keep reminding yourself. This is business. Do what is best for you as a business. Refuse to drink the KoolAid.
Thanks. I have the same feeling all this visibility, impact crap is hollow and worth shit
Which team are you part of at Azure?
You'll get downleveled right? Or do they not do that for MS?
I would try to get promoted as much as you reasonably can, then jump.
Sounds like a solid plan
Agreed. Stay until the promotions stop. Easier to move laterally and you never know what the other opportunities will be.
“Should I?” I think you need to get some interviews first. Their offers will help you answer if you should or not.
Yes, when you realize you can’t send your kids to their dream school because you didn’t take that higher paying job 10 years ago.
Think about it this way how much does your company really value you? Value means comp, responsibilities , promo, etc. if you feel like you’re getting the short end of the stick on any of these and think you can do better elsewhere, it’s probably time to leave.
Sometimes, it best to stay at a place where you are recognized. No amount of money will give you that feeling.
Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name....
