Just launched a startup called Simius that offers cybersecurity for smart devices in your home

Just launched a startup called Simius. Simius is basically cyber security for smart devices in your home. There is new industry on the horizon and that is “Personal Cybersecurity” with 22 billion IoT devices which is more than the human population. Simius scans your network and if vulnerabilities are found, it shows you the recommended solutions on how to fix them. So basically we are taking what enterprises pay thousands of dollars for and giving it to the consumer. Just like when the rise of personal computers came out during bill gates era post IBM. Check it out - https://simius.ai/ #startup #cybersecurity #smarthome.

Antivirus for iot? I trust Amazon or Google. What do I get from your services?

New
rcgsin OP May 24, 2021

That is very good question and I can refer you to one of our articles out CTO had written about “What is Simius and why it is the future?”https://simius.ai/blog/post/what-is-simius-and-why-is-it-the-future-for-home-privacy/ To answer your question, it is not an antivirus, you see antiviruses do damage control they only act when there has been a breach and that is if it is up to date at that moment in time and by then the damage is already done. Imagine a security you hire literally sleeping inside your home and sharing all your resources and is only alert when there is a break in not before and after that it does not find out why ? The simius solution is a vaccine, we prevent it before it occurs for example, remember when there was a Facebook breach with 534 million accounts that leaked a hacker can basically take that password and log into your IOT the antivirus will not detect that, so we will let you know where you have been compromised and what you need to do. A lot of times we do not instinctively change those passwords. If your credit card is stolen you get a new one ? Who keeps up to date with consumers with password breaches. Or if there is a new risk or hole, we tell you you have to update your firmware to keep up and we also check for various types of threats or sometimes change the device that is outdated you see manufacturers build the IoTs to prevent hack at that moment in time forgetting hacks are done by softwares and they are multiple variations of that. Also the antivirus is cumbersome and whenever these breaches Google nest , ring they always blame the consumer.

Thanks for explaining. I looked at your plans and features. Looks like it was written by an engineer. I’m non-tech and I don’t know what those checks are. Can you simplify? I was watching some product mgmt videos earlier and this reminded me of Evernote. Am I your target market?

Yes you can

hate to tell you, this won’t work. 1. you have to be perfect. business understands they can’t get perfection. consumers will read about (and only about) the ones that got through your screening and think your product is useless. 2. people don’t care about security. they aren’t going to pay for this. 3. there is nothing you can do that are actionable by the user. users are ducking stupid. most iot devices have burned on security issues that cannot be fixed. sounds great for the smart crowd but there’s no business here

one more: i realize this is a sales forward strategy and for that it’s great. but still, you 100% need a privacy policy, *front and center*. how do i know this isn’t a scam and you’re mapping my internal network and reselling the info? longer term you need *controls* that guarantee me you aren’t exporting my internal network info. the app needs absolutely best controls to prevent hacking so someone can’t come in and hack or alter *your app* and take the data, regardless of your privacy policy. also the very first faq i clicked had a typo. i didn’t like the website. far too cookie cutter for my personal taste

Intel pIyR87 May 25, 2021

I don't get the "How It Works" part: after scanning, if the system decides there are threats, what to do next? I assuming the service is mainly for residential locations.

New
rcgsin OP May 25, 2021

This right now is for residential locations B2C. After scanning if there are threats, it will show you recommend solutions on how to fix it ? Maybe if there is a password breach , it tells you to change your password or update your firmware if it is out of date. Great feedback.

Intel pIyR87 May 25, 2021

I see. So your current plan is passively remove households from threats (via changing passwords, update FW etc), instead of actively sort out thread sources. Maybe just me, if I know my house is on crosshair, I would rather see who is out there and what they want to do.

I looked through your website. Your prices are too high for the kind of services that you are providing. Read your other comments & got a decent understanding of what you are offering. There a ton of things that you need to consider based on your current approach. Several of these things will help you grow while others can burn you. DM me if you want.
