Chances of meta clearing E5 with screwing up one coding one round and acing all other
Joined Adobe recently and looking at all the numbers here on Blind, I realize that I got lowballed big time. Despite having competing offers in the Midwest and Austin, they didnt help my cause. Maybe i suck at negotiating and playing the smooth talk Can you share some good resources on how to negotiate? how do you pick up this skill? How do you practice this? I want to acquire this skill overtime in 6 months or so, when I start reapplying TC:115k/30k/5k
Cool story
It’s not a big deal. Just leave after a year and get a huge tc boost elsewhere. Make sure you get simultaneous competing offers.
If you don’t use the competing offers to negotiate then of course they aren’t going to help... You can look up the article about Haseeb and AirBnB that everyone likes linking to. Negotiating is mostly common sense though, there is nothing magical other than be able to say no and having a lot of options.
Joining Adobe expecting a high pay? Hmm, not sure if it’s a fair ask. But then also depends what you define high pay as.
What does TC mean?
Total Compensation
But what does , for, example, a TC of 100/10/5 mean? Does it also include stocks or stock options?
Never let them ask you how much you make now. Ask them what the offer pays or if it is a recruiter ask what the previous person was paid to do the same work. If they are too eager to push you through the interview process you are cheap and they will take advantage. Since you are already there and if you like what you are doing and the people you work with, then talk to your manager after a year. Just be sure to outwork everyone so that it’s a no brainer
Thanks. Can you explain the part meant by ‘if they qre too eager to push you through the interview process, you are cheap’. The interview included two phone screens, 8 onsite rounds and a VP chat after that. All of this took place in a span of 3 weeks. What does this tell you about my cheapness and taken advantage of?
All of that in 3 weeks? Yeah they knew they had you. First of all...8 onsite meetings??!!? Ridiculous
There is only one way to negotiate the highest TC possible for the position and it’s the most difficult to master: truly not giving a fuck if you get it or not. This can’t be faked or bluffed, it’s how you have to actually feel because it will shape the subtleties in your interaction with recruiters and hiring managers that you can’t control. Your vocal inflections, where your mind goes in response to certain questions, etc. Seem interested without being desperate, do your research, never be the first to give a number and remember that the first one they give you is always the lowest possible offer.
The best way it to setup shop and sell tomatoes at the corner of the street, then you will know how to negotiate with ppl to make a buck. But since this is not practical, i would recommend getting a book on the topic. At the end of the day negotiating is about finding a common ground for you and the other party.
I tried reading 48 rules of power, crucial conversations etc but they dont seem to help. Can you share the books?
The saying "wait at least one year and get a better offer" is a scam led by big companies who constantly low-ball people and take advantage of them for a year. Do whatever is best for you. Keep applying if you have it in you and leave.
Competing offer. “I have another offer I’m consider but I really like the team after talking to the HM. Id feel very comfortable moving forward with the offer if I can get an increase in compensation”
