Just curious. Are SDM L7+s expect to have their managers in a revolving Focus/Pivot door as well? Or is it for the entire org? E.g. 5% of everyone in your org must be LE vs 5% of all SDEs and 5% of all SDMs.

5% is 5%. Where it comes from isn’t really the biggest concern. In theory, the distribution would align across roles, levels, job family over time but we don’t really discuss that much in OLR unless there is a clear bias. This is just my experience.

Not sure what you mean by “in OLRs for very large ~900 org”. The discussion in the room will be usually limited to 1 level below the lowest leveled manager in the room. Unless the lowest leveled manager in the room has direct(s) at the same level/role (like L6 SDM reporting to another L6 SDM), in which case the manager discusses their direct(s) and leaves the room.

Meaning, participating in the OLR at the VP level in an org with 900 people and leaving at L7 (my current level). It’s a bit unusual, I know, but I’ve had unusual reporting relationships throughout my tenure.
