I can't say much about the Seattle teams but here is a realistic life ok: we are a bit behind where we need to be on the infrastructure and product side in terms of tech debt, but we are doing well, we get the customer, and the company is focused on doing great things. Is it the next spanner team? No. Will you have the opportunity to make huge impact? Yes. Is the company filled with assholes? No. Will you get a chance to give back? Yes. Are you going to learn a lot about product, distribution, customer focus? Hella yes.

  • Depends what you look for, of course. Need to be insanely passionate about the product you build and feel the power of tech innovation? Not here. Feel like working in a company with a great, friendly culture, where it's a pleasure to be everyday, and great work-life balance? That's here.

Sales is championed at SF. If you can sell well and consistently you will be rewarded however you choose. Cash or career advancement. Many of the middle managers in sales were once the best sales people. Spiritually, it can get fruitless fast. The customer to sales person alignment changes so frequently that customers constantly complain about it. There is also a lot of pressure that eventually good customer relationships seem to fizzle because they become annoyed by you calling every month end to try and shove a new product or upset down their throats.

My advice if you go into sales leadership is to make sure you can pick or bring your team. There is a lot of lazy coasting people in the org that make things difficult for other.
