Planning to from LA to Seattle for Amazon. Have family with 2 kids. Will be working in Doppler building.

What are the best places to live that are close to pre-school and day care? Any advice?

  • Most of people with kids live in eastside (east across Lake Washington). They are Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Sammamish, Issaquah and recently Bothell. All of these cities are safe and most of the schools in this area are ranked high. For instance, Tesla in Redmond and International high in Bellevue are national top 50. These areas are very diverse with Indians, Chinese and Eastern Europeans. Naturally there is great focus on STEM education as well. Tutoring centers are packed with students studying 1-3 grades above. Very boring cities for singles but great community for family with kids.

    If you want private schools, Lakeside in Seattle is where all of the rich kids go to (ie CEOs and business founders). Kirkland has a good one where Microsoft executives send their kids to). Your kids may not feel good unless you are on par with other parents. Bear creek in Redmond is a Christian private school.
