I am trying to consider future opportunities while choosing an internship.
I am going to use DoorDash and Facebook in this example.
I just don't understand this whole prestige thing?
Do recruiters really look at a CV, see "DoorDash" then just throw it in the garbage because they previously saw an applicant with "Facebook"? Who are these recruiters and why are they garbage at their jobs?
I thought recruiters were paid to get people hired, which means knowing the hiring bar of each company and keeping up with TC.
I don't understand why DoorDash which pays New Grads more and has a somewhat comparable hiring bar is seen as "less prestigious" than Facebook (for New Grads)?
It's as hard to get in and you make more money? You probably have more responsibilities since it's a "smaller" company so you also learn more.
I felt like the point of "prestige" is to get your CV noticed and that's it. If both companies would get your CV noticed then why not just take the one that pays more? Once you are in the interview process it doesn't matter anymore, no?
I'm still only in the internship stages of things so I might've missed something relevant, please let me know in the comments.
Note that I am talking about more "entry level" positions / New Grad.
EDIT: I am not considering a Facebook offer, this is just hypothetical

Practically speaking both are probably similar in terms of exposure and responsibility.
But Facebook has brand recognition. Forget โprestigeโ. You use the brand recognition to open doors for you. Especially early in your career
That said since you are early you have plenty of time to figure out what you wanna do. Start at door dash and then get into fb if you want. Or donโt. You have so much time to figure it out. Go with your gut
If I was in your shoes I would take the FB role (even if Iโm sacrificing some TC up front)
And then there is the practical reality that the brand recognition (or prestige of a company) will open doors for you.
