NO NO! You will the first on the list to be fired if at all for any reason! Also, if you were happy and they really cared for you, you would have not gone out to interview.

  • Never ever accept a counter.

ONLY 1 exception: if you were job hunting and offer shopping with an understanding with your manager - that they need that to help you bring up to market.

At Amazon this is not that uncommon. Managers often have very limited ability to adjust comp in short term time frames, and bringing an offer to your manager, particularly right after a major promotion, is a common tool to get comp properly adjusted to market.

Outside offers are a great way to force the issue over TC, if you find you’re negotiating with HR rather than your manager.

If you feel you’re in a strong position, this can absolutely work for you.

  • By quitting you have already broken the trust. Every time you take off for a day or less, or distracted from work, your team thinks you are interviewing. You would be fired even before the least performer in the team. So you better go. You can come back after a couple of months on renegotiated terms. That's ok.
