I have two internal job switch offers to move from PM (non-tech) role to a TPM or PM-T (unrelated - two separate offers, teams). Which should I pick given that the job duties that was explained by both teams are identical (customer interaction, backlog grooming, dev/sprint mgmt)?

TC: L6 - 260K (no change with transfer)
YOE : 17 (2 yrs at AMZN)

AWS PMT aka PMT-ES> PMT >TPM.

Go with AWS PMT because the external services distinction in AWS will increase the pay band another 40k above the regular PMT band. I am not sure that there are TPM-ES ( never heard of that at Amazon) but there are definitely plenty of PMT-ES and they make Bank$$$.

I don’t think OP would get a PMT-ES title with an internal transfer. Most likely, he’ll be PMT in a PMT-ES team

Typically if the AWS team you are on works on product with external customers, as is the case with many, but not all, AWS teams, you are given PMT-ES by default. Usually MBA students do not get the PMT-ES right away, but only after about 1-2 years are given that title and the subsequent pay bump that comes with it. As for other PMTs I would think if the team has other PMT-ES on it, then that distinction is applied across to board to all team members.

Tpm will have more day to day hustle and PMTs will have more longer term strategy and less of daily chaos. I honestly dislike TPMs job, its lot of chaotic work.
