I'm considering taking an offer from Epic Games. It's a great offer and I love the company, the only problem is the large variable bonus which isn't part of the contract. I understand it's a large chunk of TC (half? more?), but not guaranteed similar to how most investment banks/hedge funds work. This opposed to most tech companies, where your TC (RSUs, options, bonus %) is explicitly spelled out in the contract. My recruiter said they can't give any numbers on bonus because it's variable and not guaranteed.
I've done some research on Blind and Glassdoor, and I've seen a few posts stating the bonus for the last few years has been around 100% of base salary (which would be amazing for me, btw). I'm sure Fortnite and the Epic store has had a lot to do with this, and while I'm confident in Tim Sweeney's commitment to his employees, I'm worried that my TC may drop considerably if the company has a bad year.
Can anyone Epic Games comment? What have your bonuses in the last few years been as a percentage of your base salary? How do you feel about the consistency of your TC been overall?
Current TC 425k
