  • Where’s the “their both difficult in their own way and important in their own way” option?

BE engineers clearly think they’re more important. FE has imposter syndrome and think BE is also harder.

As someone that has mastered both, FE is clearly more valuable from a business perspective. It’s what sells the product. Doesn’t matter if your BE is super robust and scalable when your FE looks like a piece of crap and you can’t convince anyone to use your product.

That’s what I thought. Doesn’t BE have much more depth to it tho?

I would say be has more streams e.g infra, ops, monitoring, application, data engineering, internal tooling etc… but within fe there’s also i18n, accessibility, ux, fe architecture, fe performance and monitoring, etc… but most orgs typically don’t scale big enough to warrant dedicated teams that do these individual parts so you just have people doing bits of everything.
