    People who join MSFT, they join it bcos they weren't able to crack Google, FB etc which pays more. Basically they isn't any comparison with Google, FB. People keep comparing Msft offers with other companies.

    • It's not just negotiation.

      Some people might slot in at the bottom or top of a band.

      A band stretches across the entire company and contains many people with many different skills, some of which are far more valuable than others.

      Different orgs and managers have set budgets.

      Sometimes it's just luck, I was once far and away the best paid member of my team simply because I was the hiring manager's last hire in his way out and he said fuck it.

      The l62 is either an outlier with a unique situation with multiple offers and being wanted badly.

      Other comments around 64 are correct. So in that sense both of those inputs are valid
