How is KP insurance? Are their doctors as good as other non Kaiser doctors? Thinking about getting this for my parents as opposed to Anthem Blue Cross. I am a bit worried about the insurance and medical services being served by the same company.
It’s a shitty HMO. It’s like the 99 cent store of medical insurance.
This is like asking Kia vs Porsche lol
KP doctors are bargain bin. Also has all the shitty “you can’t go to a specialist without a referral even if it is obvious you need the specialist. Also you can’t get a referral without an appointment. Oh and appointments aren’t available for 3 months.”
This ☝🏻
Not true for us at Facebook MPK. We have a health center with Kaiser doctors (and doctors who take Atena) and it’s super easy to get an appointment. They take walk ins too for emergencies.
South bay kaiser was amazing SF kaiser is a piece of shit I'm changing
Do yourself and your parents a favor, please avoid kaiser.
I like it (South Bay)
If you are relatively healthy, it seems like a one stop shop for your needs. However, I’ve seen some serious illnesses (cancer) and trauma injuries of friends and family members within the last 2-10 years that were not handled well.
AVOID Kaiser at all cost!!!
Can you please elaborate? I am trying to make a decision between atena and Kaiser
I've had KP for 7 years and have had the best health care experience I've ever known. Before that, I was always BCBS - which I assumed was the best because every knew the name. I was wrong. Now, I know the quality of my doctors, I checked out their medical reputation by respected industry standard organizations - and it all worked. The naysayers, well, hard to tell if they just have an ax to grind or what. I say try KP for a year until your next renewal period and decide for yourself.

I grew up with Kaiser and joined them again when I moved back to CA (after years of using other insurance). Have had great service with them and zero complaints (I should note I don’t have any chronic illnesses or anything major going on so really just go for routine appointments). They’re also in our health center which is convenient.
